Complaints against a Judge's conduct is handled by a department Office of Judicial Complaints. www.judicialcomplaints.gov.uk. This is a relatively new department and seems to be run by part-time mothers. At least you can never get to speak to anyone on the telephone. They are also not very astute when it comes to sending internal e-mails and one wonders just how much private information escapes their office.
In my case, my complaint against the behaviour of District Judge Gold was handled by a person signing the letter, Liz Cooper. On every occasion I telephoned the reply came back, 'Oh! it is her day off today, she will be back on Thursday..' No one else was able to speak to me.
Opinion: Waste of time don't bother. Another one of those useless Government departments.
When Liz Cooper was advised what my intentions were next and how frustrated I felt with the OJC, she must have notified her 'superior', Maurice Coyne, who carelessly replied copying me with his message which he tried unsuccessfully to recall . A little naive I feel but gives you some idea of the type of people running the department.
The Parliamentary Ombudsman can investigate a complaint and if necessary recommend changes or demand an apology. However, by their own admission they cannot enforce their recommendations or bring about change. So once again you have hit a brick wall.
